Of course the New Year brings with it a whole host of new promises. Most of us have thought about things we want to achieve this year, or uttered the phrase, ‘Let’s hope this year is better than 2010.’

But having those thoughts and saying those words is just the tip of the iceberg. To make those words reality you need to have certain things in place. I want to share with you now some of the very simple steps involved…

Have a definite goal: - If your goal is a bit vague then the waters are muddied. You can’t achieve if you don’t have a clear view of what it is you want to achieve.

Write it down: - Research shows that writing down your goal gives you a much better chance of achieving it.

Turn that goal into an affirmation: - An affirmation is a ‘declaration that something is true.’ So write your goal down as if it has already happened. For example rather than writing down:-

‘I want to give up smoking’

Write something along the lines of:-

“I feel fit and healthy and my clothes and hair don’t smell now that I have taken up only healthy habits.”

Once you have your affirmation, read it aloud to yourself several times first thing in the morning and last thing at night.

Develop LASER focus: – Unless you can completely focus on the affirmation written on the piece of paper its achievement will be ten times harder. Eliminate all thoughts of failure and block out the words of the doubters, because you will have them. I call them the Dream Stealers. These are the people who, as soon as you tell them what you are trying to achieve, come out with sentences like, ‘Oh you’ll never do that, what do you want to do that for?’ I suggest that once you have decided on what it is you want to achieve, you tell no one, not even those closest to you. Instead, let them see the results for themselves.

Read ‘the guide’: – I’ve just scratched the surface with the points above. To fully understand how humans behave and therefore how best to achieve your goals, read ‘the guide,’ digest it, let it sink in, re-visit bits you feel you need to, and let it work for you.

‘the guide,’ is a book which will help change your life positively and dramatically for the better. I’ve recorded a short video about ‘the guide,’ which I’d love you to watch and discover more about what drove me to write it and what it’s about.

Since the book was published we’ve had a phenomenal response, loads of great reviews on Amazon (all of them five star), lots of press coverage…and people who read, ‘the guide,’ are achieving great things with it.

At the end of September I delivered my company (Sewells) three day open workshop, “Working Miracles™ with Performance,” the basis for ‘the guide.’ It reminded me about how so many people who had experienced, “Working Miracles™,” were telling me I had to share it with the rest of the world and that I should write a book. So, that’s where, ‘the guide,’ was spawned.

One of the things I love most about “Working Miracles™ with Performance” is the variety of people who attend the workshop. In September we had delegates from as far afield as Egypt and Nigeria, although one of them had a mad dash to arrive on time after his plane clipped a lamppost at Lagos airport, meaning he had to switch planes and get on a flight to Heathrow instead of Manchester!

However they get there, each person is there for their own reasons, but when they leave, they all have a common goal and that goal is to fulfill their potential in life. I can’t wait to hear back from them in a few months and find out what incredible things they’ll be doing.

This whole process of changing your life doesn’t happen overnight though. Once you’ve set out on this road, you’ve got to keep going, learning new things along the way. Sometimes you’ll hit hurdles, and sometimes it will seem like a long road, but remember, there are plenty of ways to get support to help you along the way.  I hope, ‘the guide,’ is a book you’ll read time and again and get something new from it on each occasion. There are lots of other inspirational books to read that have enlightened me and I’ll share some of my favourites with you through this blog.
